President Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.@headingTag>
On July 1, 2024, Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., became the ninth president of the University of Nebraska. Gold is a heart surgeon and first-generation college student with decades of proven leadership in higher education.
He most recently served as chancellor of the University of Ãå±±ÂÖ¼éMedical Center, board chair for the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼éMedicine Health System, and provost and executive vice president of the University of Ãå±±ÂÖ¼éSystem. He has also served as the chancellor of the University of Ãå±±ÂÖ¼éat Omaha and the chancellor of the University of Toledo, among other distinguished roles.
Gold earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University’s College of Engineering and his M.D. from the Weill Cornell College of Medicine. He and his wife, Dr. Robin Hayworth, are the parents of two adult children and have two grandchildren.

James E. Ryan Associate Professor of English, UNL
Born in southwestern Nigeria, Obioma has been a faculty member for nearly 10 years. His first novel, "The Fisherman," was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize for Fiction in 2015, and his second novel, "An Orchestra of Minorities," was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2019. Obioma is one of only a few authors to appear on the Booker list more than once.

Professor of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease at UNMC
Since arriving at UNMC in 1991, Dr. Swindells has been the force behind the university’s advancement in HIV clinical care for adults and children, research and education. She is recognized globally for her commitment to helping underserved populations, and in 2013, her work won her the University of Nebraska’s Innovation, Development and Engagement Award (IDEA).

Director of the National Counterterrorism, Innovation, Technology and Education Center, UNO
Dr. Ligon is a nationally-recognized expert in terrorism research. Joining UNO in 2012, she has worked closely with the Department of Defense, serves as a program director for the USSTRATCOM Leader Fellowship Program, and is the Jack and Stephanie Koraleski Professor of Collaboration Science Management.
